Introduction
The Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE), popularly known as "SATHOSA" is a body corporate established under the Act of Parliament No. 47 of 1949.
The Primary objective of the CWE is to ensure the availability of essential consumer products, mainly food items in the market at reasonable prices, in adequate quantities and quality. Being a public sector organization, CWE has a greater social responsibility to ensure food security and to maintain effective control over prices at times of market failures and emergencies.
The CWE, on its part, is making a concerted effort to become the leader in trading, with its own identity in a competitive market economy.
